The Society

The Baker County Historical Society, Inc. was founded by a group of concerned citizens in 1978. Their vision was an organization dedicated to preserving the history and heritage of Baker County. Since these early days of the corporation, numerous activities have brought the vision of the early founders to reality.

Various projects through the years have shown the Society's dedication to preserving the county's history. Buildings have been designated as Baker County and National Register Sites.

The Society's library is open every 3rd Saturday of the month from 11am to 2pm and is staffed by volunteers.

Information available for the researcher includes books, micofilm, and unpublished information. The library's collection highlights the southern United States with emphasis on Georgia and Florida. Numerous unpublished records on Baker County are housed in the library.

The collections of two genealogists, Loyce Knabb Coleman and Lt. Col. Mace Harris, were donated to the Society and are available for research. Additionally, much of the research of noted county historian, the late Gene Barber, is on file for use.
